The Emotion SFX Project

Something that I have always struggled with is showing my true emotions. I often find that people get frustrated with me because I won't reveal how I am really feeling. I know others struggle with this too. So thus The Emotion SFX Project was born.

What is The Emotion SFX Project?

This is a personal project that I am using to show how I am feeling through Special Effects Makeup. I take what I am feeling on the inside and paint an over dramatized version on my skin. Thus my emotions are made plain to see. I mark each of these photos in the series with the hashtag: #theemotionsfxproject and post it on all of my social media accounts.

My first photo in the series is Fear. Fear is an emotion that we all face more often than we would like. It often feels like we can't speak or breathe. I selected this emotion to be the first in this project because it is something we all feel throughout our lives.

In this photo, I am pictured with my blue skeletal hand pressed firmly against my mouth. My eyes are wide and piercing. Blue is often a calming color, but I wanted to show that even comfort can be jarring. It stands out from my pale pink skin. There's light and darkness shown because there is always two sides to every fear.

My second photo in this series is labeled: Envy. This is an emotion I struggle with on a deep level. I find it hard not to covet what others have or to envy the past.

This can be an unsettling photo. It pictures my green lips surrounded by pale green veins stretching out over my face. There is blood in my mouth, spilling out onto my chin. The green is an obvious representation of envy and jealousy. As I speak more the envy spreads. The blood is to show me biting my tongue. How many times do we have to bite our tongues to keep from blurting out the hateful things we say caused by envy. We don't want envy to spread, so we bite and suffer.

My goal for this project isn't so that I get recognized, but so that I can slow down, and take the time to process my emotions through an art form I truly love. Maybe others will catch on and use this to help themselves process their emotions. If you do want to add to The Emotion SFX Project, please tag me in your post on any social media and add the tag: #theemotionsfxproject. I hope to try and add to my collection once a week for the rest of the summer along with other fun SFX projects. Stay tuned!
